Rio de Janerio is know for its music, beaches, and festivals. One of its most well known festivals is Carnival, which dates back to 1723. This famous festival lasts for nearly a week. Its main attraction is the Sambadrones parade. In this parade, samba schools compete against each other with themed choreographed dances, elaborate costumes, and parade floats. In 2007, Rio became home to one of the 7 Wonders of the World. The Christ the Redeemer statue stands 98 feet tall on Mount Corcovado. It was completed in 1931 and is a symbol of faith and welcome. This statue with its panoramic views attracts millions of tourists each year.
