Our Animals

Learn about each of our animal residents and the tales of their cities

  • Louis

    ST LOUIS, MISSOURI, USA

Louis is the king of head boops. He was rescued from a kill shelter in 2013. He has been ruling his kingdom ever since with a big heart and friendliness for all. Louis balances out all his curious cat trouble he causes with a welcoming spirit, while handing out affection to visitors and siblings alike.

  • Brisbane

    BRISBANE, QUEENSLAND, AUSTRALIA

Brisbane, affectionately known as Brizzy, became part of our family when we adopted her in 2011. The matriarch of our animal crew, she is one of the muses of Tails of Two Cities Sanctuary along with her brother, Dublin. Brizzy is a star wherever she goes and loves meeting new people, especially kids. She is the definition of a gentle giant and loves her role as a therapy pup in our monthly visits to senior care centers.

  • Ziggy

    ZAGAZIG, EGYPT

Ziggy is one of our special needs animals and has cerebello vestibular disease. His foster mom took excellent care of him, sitting up with him all night long while he had dozens of “spells” which look like seizures. She provided the best care for him even after several vets recommended he be put to sleep. We feel so lucky that Zig was loved unconditionally by so many who were willing to give him a chance and that in 2020 we were entrusted to give him the best life possible. He has come a very long way from having to use a stroller or backpack on short walks to being a hiking dog who occasionally needs breaks.

  • Wilbur

    WILBUR, WASHINGTON, USA

Wilbur was rescued at the same time as Ziggy in 2020. They are biological brothers but came from different foster families. Thankfully, even though Wilbur could barely walk and fell and wobbled everywhere, his fantastic foster parents decided he deserved a shot even after three vets recommended he be put to sleep. Witnessing happy Wilbur go from using a wheelchair or stroller on short walks to hiking with the whole family has been a privilege.

  • Darwin

    DARWIN, NORTH TERRITORY, AUSTRALIA

Darwin was rescued by a local big dog rescue. Only he and three of his siblings survived Parvo, which they had gotten from the breeders. We were fortunate enough to have him join our sanctuary in 2023. He was born with a severe overbite and misalignment of his upper and lower teeth. Because of this he had to have 12 removed as a puppy! He loves all new human friends that he gets to meet as a therapy pup.

  • Tallie

    TALKEETNA, ALASKA, USA

Tallie was a failure to thrive baby born in 2023 and without help from humans would not have survived. Tallie couldn’t stand to nurse, she was given as much time with her yak mom as possible to give her the best chance of them staying together, but the odds were against them. Tallie was born premature with contracted ligaments/tendons on an unseasonably cold and wet night. She was donated to Tails of Two Cites Sanctuary because it was clear she couldn’t make it on her own. After 24 hours at CSU where she received the best care, we were able to take her home. Tallie continued to receive intensive care once home and thankfully has grown to thrive at Tails!

  • Wheezy

    LAKE LOUISE, BANFF, CANADA

Wheezy was rescued in 2021 with her brother and sister, Albie and Vicky. Wheezy has always been the littlest one, but that doesn’t mean she’s lacking in personality or energy. She is often leading the way to treats that have been accidentally left out by humans, the bugs in the mud, or to the humans eating outside who might share their salad or tomatoes. Wheezy especially loves the peas her humans throw into the duck pond and to play in any water, no matter how small the pond, tub, sink, or puddle.

  • Albie

    LAKE ALBERT, UGANDA, AFRICA

Albie is a mallard mix who was rescued before he could be shipped to slaughter with his sisters, Wheezy and Vicky, in April 2021. Albie is always on duty, fiercely protecting Wheezy. When he’s not out patrolling the property or defending Wheezy from perceived threats, he can be found enjoying a splash in his pool or scavenging for snacks to eat.

  • Olive

    OLIVA, SPAIN

Olive joined our sanctuary in 2024. She was rescued from a dairy farm where she would have spent her days as a dairy goat until she was no longer of use. After she was rescued, she and her five other siblings were donated to our sanctuary to live out their days being the goofy goats that they are. She is the matriarch of our goat herd. She’s always watching out for the others and makes sure no one gets separated from the group.

  • Vien

    VIENNA, AUSTRIA

Vein and her siblings were rescued from a dairy farm before being donated to our sanctuary in 2024. She is the smallest of our goats, but that doesn’t keep her from being the bravest. She is sweet, curious, adventurous, loyal, and enthusiastic. She never misses a chance to explore, cause trouble, or get stuck in something.

  • Rocket

    HUNTSVILLE, ALABAMA, USA

Rocket is one of the six goats who were donated to us in 2024 after being rescued from a dairy farm. She’s usually the first goat to rocket right up to meet new friends and get some attention and love. Her favorite thing to do when she was little was sit in your lap after trying to climb up your leg for attention. She is the one most often peering through the windows of the house to see if anyone inside will come out for a visit. She is often found right next to her sister, Olive, when she’s not lobbying for attention. She loves to put her head up to the sky and upside to see the world from a different vantage point and when you scratch her between her shoulder blades she’ll show her appreciation by tilting her head all the way back

  • Kings

    KINGSTON, JAMAICA

Kings was donated to us in 2024 with his five other siblings to us after being rescued from a dairy farm. As a male goat, instead of staying at the dairy farm he would have been auctioned off to slaughter. He’s a happy, loving, and laid back guy, which is why he’s a favorite of so many. He’s a fantastic brother to Vienna and half brother to our other goats.

  • Ozzy

    OSLO, NORWAY

Ozzy was donated to us 2024 with our other goat residents after being rescued from the fate of a dairy goat. Ozzy is the tallest goat and was the most scared and shy goat when he first arrived at the sanctuary. His favorite person in the whole world is his Dad, Myles, which is no surprise since Myles was the first person to hold Ozzy and the first person he really trusted to get close to him and give him love and lots of pets. All the goats are extremely sweet, but Ozzy seems to show his kind sensitive side with confidence and without reluctance. He’ll stand staring patiently up at you until you give him a pet and will happily just stand or lie next to you just to be close.

  • Toumy

    KHARTOUM, SUDAN

Toumy was rescued from a dairy farm with his other siblings. He joined our sanctuary in 2024. Toumy has taken it upon himself to be Tallie the Yak’s favorite goat. When not found by his brother Ozzy or head butting everyone else off the food, he’s found close to Tallie. He loves his Yak sister and tries to engage her in play and also tries to comfort her by standing under her head so she can lean her head on his back. He’s also had Ned the honorary resident, or one of his cousins, stop and eat a snack on his side while he was napping in the sun! Toumy along with his brother Ozzy love human attention and love and are usually the ones lingering longest when there are pets and snuggles to be handed out which is special because he and his brother Ozzy were the shyest and most insecure when the goats first arrived.

  • Murphy

    MURPHY, NORTH CAROLINA, USA

Murphy came to us from Rocky Mountain Riding Therapy in 2022. He had been a therapy donkey with them for a year and then when he was ready to retire his owner looked for a new home for him because her horses didn’t get along with him and she wanted him to have a herd and friends. The horse trainer at RMRT recommended Tails to Murphy’s owner and she decided to donate him to us! Murphy is sweet and sassy. Despite his small size, he loves spending every moment he can with the love of his life, Rio.

  • London

    LONDON, ENGLAND

London joined our sanctuary in 2020. She and Brooklyn were a bonded pair at the rescue they came from. London had severely neglected and overgrown hooves when she was saved from the kill pen at auction. She is our sassiest fur baby. All the time, acupuncture, massage, regular good care, and dentals have allowed her to heal and really show us her personality. She is just as kind and smart as she is sassy, and has been enjoying her time as a therapy horse. She truly is magnificent!

  • Brooklyn

    BROOKLYN, NEW YORK, USA

Rescued from the kill pen, we adopted Brooklyn and her sister London in 2020. Brooklyn was blind in her left eye from trauma when she was younger and has had to have it removed to prevent infection, but that hasn’t slowed her down. She isn’t afraid to put our massive Rio in her place and is a regular helper with our monthly visits to senior care centers.

  • Rio

    RIO DE JANERIO, BRAZIL

Rio was saved by 1 Horse at a Time Draft Horse Rescue at an auction as a 1year old. She had a crooked foot and an uncertain future. She found her certain future when she joined the Tails of Two Cities Sanctuary family as a 2 year old in 2022. Our giant girl is patient, kind, smart, and not afraid to get a little sassy when she doesn’t think she’s had enough attention. Rio loves making new human and animal friends whenever she gets the chance.

  • Luna

    LUNA, ROMANIA

Luna is another Rocky Mountain Riding Therapy retiree who joined our herd in 2024. Before her 5 years as a therapy horse, she was a privately owned dressage horse. When Luna was ready to retire from her work as a therapy horse, her owner was interested in rehoming her. The horse trainer at RMRT recommended Tails and Luna’s owner donated her to us! Rio was thrilled to have another big friend. Luna is full of quiet strength but isn’t afraid to share her opinions when needed.

  • Dream

    MUMBAI, INDIA

Dream was the final Rocky Mountain Riding Therapy retiree to join our herd. Before her year and a half as a therapy horse she had been adopted by Safe Landing Horse Rescue after many years as a dude ranch horse. Dream and Luna were bonded when Luna retired to Tails. These sweet friends were so excited to be reunited when Dream came to our sanctuary just a few months after Luna in 2024. Dream is the perfect combination of sweet and salty and reminds us daily that age is just a number.
