Lake Victoria is Africa’s largest lake by area at over 26,000 miles. It is the world’s most tropical lake and the world’s second largest freshwater lake by area. It is second only to Lake Superior.

Lake Victoria is on the borders of Tanzania, Uganda and Kenya.

Lake Victoria supports thriving fishing, agriculture, and transport industries.

Lake Victoria is famous for the Ssese Islands, consisting of 84 islands.

The only river that flows out of Lake Victoria is the famous Nile River.

Lake Victoria also goes by the names of Lake Nyanza, Nam Lolwe (Luo) and Nnalubaale (Luganda). It is marketed as “The Pearl” or “Pride of Africa”

Fishing is a highlight when visiting Lake Victoria, but swimming is not recommended due to large hippo and crocodile populations and unpredictable weather patterns.
